Misha mit kater
Hej!
My name is Misha, and I make things out of leather. Here are a few things that matter to me and shape what I create.
I live and make things in Berlin
Berlin is the best city I’ve lived in — and it’s become a big part of my identity. It’s a modern Babylon where any stranger can feel like they belong, and where anything strange can feel normal.
„Du bist verrückt, mein Kind, du musst nach Berlin.“
mit kater — a name and a symbol
The name of my brand is taken from a song by Einstürzende Neubauten — a band that has deeply inspired me. The logo I use is the multiocular O, an ancient and extremely rare letter. It appears only once in recorded history — in a 15th-century East Slavic manuscript, in the Old Church Slavonic phrase serafimi mnogoochitii, meaning “many-eyed seraphims”.

This is artisanal, not fashion
I’m inspired by avant-garde fashion — from well-known names like Rick Owens, Yohji Yamamoto, and Ann Demeulemeester, to more esoteric designers like Carol Christian Poell, Deepti Barth, and Leon Emanuel Blanck.
But what I do isn’t about collections or trends. It's about craft. Each piece is made one at a time, and often the design evolves from one item to the next. For me, the most important thing is the process, how to make something right.
Handmade and hand-stitched
Quality can mean different things. Sometimes it’s about longevity — how many years something will last. Other times, it’s about the care and intention behind every step.
I believe in both. I hand-stitch every piece because I love the process. No sewing machines — just my hands, tools, and time. The saddle stitch I use is not only meditative to make, but also the strongest seam in leathercraft and something no machine can replicate.
Vegetable tanned horse culatta and shell cordovan
Nearly all the leather I use is vegetable tanned. It ages beautifully, gains patina, and with proper care, can last for decades.
My favorite and main material of choice is horse culatta leather. I'm fascinated by its texture and quality, even though it can be challenging to work with. You can read more about horse culatta in my blog.
